We are excited to announce we have been working with the Nonsuch JMC,  WhistleStop Arts and Nonsuch Voles to create a Solar System Walk through the delightful grounds of Nonsuch Park. <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Anyone visting the park can now experience the scale and vastness of our Solar System whilst enjoying the beautiful surroundings of the historic park. <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Information boards spaced at scale distances to the distances between objects in our Solar System display fascinating facts about the Sun, planets and other interesting objects.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Ewell Astronomical Society is a society dedicated to all aspects of amateur astronomy and space. <\/p>\n

Our patron is Professor Andrew Coates of University College London (UCL) who kindly accepted our invitation to become our patron in 2024.<\/p>\n

Professor Andrew Coates<\/p><\/div>\n

Professor Coates has been at UCL’s Mullard Space Science Laboratory since 1982 and has worked on many leading-edge space missions including the Rosalind Franklin (ExoMars) rover where he leads the PanCam team, Cassini, where he led the electron spectrometer team (part of the Cassini Plasma Spectrometer), Venus Express, Mars Express and Giotto .<\/p>\n

Ewell Astronomical Society was initially founded by Phil Ringsdore in 1966 with Sir Patrick Moore as its patron. ( Sir Patrick Moore<\/a> )<\/p>\n

Following Sir Patrick’s death in 2012, Professor Ian Morison accepted an invitation to become the society’s patron, a position which he held until his sad passing in April 2024. ( Professor Ian Morison<\/a> )<\/p>\n

The society has the use of an Observatory housed 11 inch Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope installed at Nonsuch High School where we hold regular informal observing sessions. We also hold regular observing sessions at Headley Heath and Ranmore Common near Dorking under dark skies.<\/p>\n

We can provide talks, demonstrations and guided viewing sessions for schools and groups such as Brownies, Guides, Cubs and Scouts.<\/p>\n
