Ewell Astronomical Society was founded by Phil Ringsdore in 1966 with Sir Patrick Moore as its patron. Following Sir Patrick’s death in 2012, Professor Ian Morison accepted an invitation to become the society’s patron. A position he still holds.
The society has the use of an Observatory housed 11 inch Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope installed at Nonsuch High School where we hold regular informal observing sessions. We also hold regular observing sessions at Headley Heath and Ranmore Common near Dorking under dark skies.
We can provide talks, demonstrations and guided viewing sessions for schools and groups such as Brownies, Guides, Cubs and Scouts.
Due to the increasing restrictions following the outbreak of COVID-19 we have decided to cancel our observing sessions on the 20-25 March and April 17-27, our Viewing Group session on the 2nd April and our April speaker meeting on the 17th April. Our priority is to support the reduction & slow the spread of the virus. Stay safe everyone and normal service will be resumed as soon as possible. Updates will be provided here and on facebook.
